Running this dedicated programme of service to our children is cost intensive, yet necessary to achieve the goal of self confident and self sufficient children who may contribute towards the economic wealth of our country. The evil circle of poverty, decline in moral and social standards and dependence on government grants to survive needs to be addressed and therefore the Greytown Child and Youth care centre’s extended rehabilitation programmes.
The Greytown Child and Youth Care Centre need to secure multi-year funding to balance the operational cost budget. The monthly subsidy paid by the Department of Social Development is not enough to provide for a holistic care programme for our children to address the wrongs of the past and create opportunities for them to focus on a better future.
Not many donor organisations and businesses are prepared to fund operational cost items but would rather fund capital projects. The Centre has two mayor donors (True Blue Foods [KFC Franchise holder] and Pietermaritzburg and District Community Chest) that annually donate a substantial amount towards covering operational costs. The Centre does understand that donors prefer to fund capital projects because it is easier to control the spending of the donation. The truth of the matter however is that high quality buildings and equipment do not contribute towards covering the costs to provide for the holistic care programme for our children. We do also receive donations from Congregations and individuals. However, after the recent Covid-19 pandemic there has been a decrease in donations and funds.
Our main expenses and areas in which we require your help are: – Food (monthly cost of R150 000) – Electricity (monthly between R50000 and R70000) – Toiletries and Cleaning Supplies – Stationary – Clothing (Uniforms, foot wear, casual clothing)
Greytown Children’s Home profoundly impacts children’s lives through education, emotional support, life skills training, and fostering hope and resilience. We prioritize education as a pathway to empowerment, providing access to quality education and support programs.
